The Beaver Colonies are run by Rachel Bonus , Robert Johnston and Amber Jennings
I have been scouting for most of my life, my Grandad was a scout leader for 55 years and encouraged my scouting career.
I started as a Rainbow, Brownie and then a Guide before becoming a Young Leader with 1st Turnford Beavers in 2012.
I have been an adult leader for 5 years with the group and now lead both the Ash & Elm Colonies.
The best thing about being a Beaver Leader is that we are the first step in their scouting experience and it is great to see them enjoying activities right the way through to Scouts.
It is a very rewarding role.
Camping is my favourite activity as it’s a great excuse for some toasted marshmallows around the fire and of course, Campfire Songs!
I have been in scouting for more than 15 years after being introduced to it by my Aunt and Uncle and have come through Cubs, Scouts and continuing through to becoming a leader for Beavers.
My favourite thing about being a Beaver Scout Leader is teaching the children outdoors skills that you wouldn’t often get to do at home e.g. fire lighting.
I have been helping out at Beavers for 3 years. I have grown up with Beavers as members of my family are also Beaver Leaders.
I enjoy Beavers because we get to do lots of fun activities. It’s nice to see the Beavers learning new skills and also making new friends along the way!
My favourite thing to do in particular is camping - they are super fun and you get to do lots of different activities that you wouldn’t normally be able to do anywhere else and also Archery.
